This page contains information about finding and monitoring your current seed. Here you will learn the techniques used to find your initial seed and how to find your current RNG state at any given point.
Figure 1 - Retail Seedfinder Overview
On the far right of the main window in the Retail Tools section, locate the button for the Retail Seed Finder and click it to open a subwindow. This window is where we will record a series of "motions" or "animations" to identify our initial seed.
When viewing the summary of a Pokémon, pressing down on the Left/Right Stick will cause the Pokémon to perform an attack animation. Most Pokémon have two separate attack animations, which can be referred to as "Physical" or "Special". this gif provides a short demonstration on how to identify animation differences.
To determine your seed you will need to accurately record up to 128 consecutive attack animations. You can do this on either the Pokémon summary screen or the party list. If you are new to the process, we highly recommend that you use the Pokémon summary screen.
The party list is not recommended for beginners as it allows you to press the stick before the previous animation has finished, which will cause an RNG advancement that you cannot see if you accidentally click too quickly.
Figure 2 - Recording Animations
It is important to pick a Pokémon that has a clear animation difference to make the process as simple as possible. Espeon, Gallade, Drilbur, and Metapod are the most commonly used Pokémon for this process.
Left Stick/Right Stick. Record whether the animation was physical or special.0 into the Animations field of the SeedFinder.1 into the Animations field of the SeedFinder.Update Main Form to send your seed into the main window. If you do not want to use 0's and 1's for seed identification, owoow also accepts , or s for special inputs, and . or p for physical inputs. Use whichever input is most comfortable for you.
Once you find your seed, you should be able to find any future RNG state as long as you do not reboot the game! You should only need to redo the initial advances if you reboot the game or edit the Seed[0]/Seed[1] fields with incorrect values.
Figure 3 - Seed Found!
After finding your seed and updating the main window, you will want to confirm that the seed is correct. A single erroneous input can result in the wrong seed. This is best achieved using the following method:
Update Main Form after identifying your seed using the Seed Finder to populate the seed fields on the main window.X Menu still open, set your search range (the + field) inside the Encounter Settings section to a small number such as 20-50. Untick the Filters Enabled? checkbox and click Search! to perform a filterless search.Animations column of the table. Keep in mind that 0 represents a physical animation and 1 represents special.Retail Tools section.+ field. This should be at least as many attack animations you did, plus some extra leeway.Generate button, which will generate as far as you entered in the + field.Anim.: box underneath. It typically takes around 5-25 animations to find your seed.+ field to cover how much you have advanced and click the Generate button. If you are unable to reidentify your seed, you can increase the + field field and Generate again.+ field of the Retail Tools section to a value greater than the number of advances you believe have occurred. For example, if you believe that roughly 50000 advances have occurred and you now wish to reidentify your seed, make sure the value inside the + field is set to a number that is > 50000 to avoid matching with an incorrect animation pattern.
Figure 4 - Advanced Seed Finding
The advanced seed finding is a feature used to identify your seed in less than 128 animations. This can only be used when the game has been freshly booted and you have a rough estimate of how many advances have been consumed between launching the game and entering the overworld.
When opening the Retail Seed Finder sub window, Advanced Mode can be toggled by selecting the checkbox found on the right hand side. The Min Adv. & Max Adv. found here are preconfigured for quiet areas in calm (not rainy) weather conditions. It is not feasible for retail players to know how many advances are consumed when entering the overworld, so a range is required.
It is expected that you will be able to find your seed in 64-80 animations in a quiet area, the further you increase the Max Adv., the greater the number of animations required to find your current seed will be. For this reason, using this feature in noisy areas or areas where the current active weather is rain or thunderstorm is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.
Retail Seed Finder tab and click the Advanced Mode checkbox, avoid changing the ranges if you are in a quiet area.Status indicator found under the advance range will tell you the rough number of advances required to find your seed as you get closer.Figure 5 - Capture Card Monitoring
If you have a capture card capable of streaming your Switch video output to a PC, you can use owoow's Capture Card Monitor feature to automatically capture animations for you. Detailed setup and usage instructions are available on a dedicated page, which can be found by clicking the button below.
Before using this feature, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the basics of seed finding, particularly how to identify the different attack animation types and the difference between the summary screen and party list.
